What is Supported Decision-Making?
Supported Decision-Making (SDM) empowers people with intellectual and developmental disabilities to make decisions with the support of people they trust. The Supported Decision-Making process is a less restrictive alternative to Guardianship.
Person + Support = Capacity
With a signed Supported Decision-Making Agreement, a person has supports in place that help them make decisions regarding their health, finances, and living opportunities. Supporters are not in charge of making decisions, but rather they help the person supported make an informed choice.
As a true person-centered partner, AIM will walk with you through the process, ensuring that you will be offered access to customized options that will help you live your most independent and least restrictive life.
You do not need to receive any other services from AIM Services, including Fiscal Intermediary services, to participate in Supported Decision-Making.
