Over the summer for the past two years a group of people we serve have been given the opportunity to enjoy a day of sailing with the Y-Knot sailing program ran by Camp Chingachgook on Lake George, NY. The idea came to Mike Vyent, Program Director of Residential, after some past experiences in the field. He said, “The way I’ve always looked at it is that any experience that I’ve had in my life, I would like to project that out on to others who’ve never had that opportunity.”

Some of the people AIM serves have never before had the opportunity to be out on the water. Y-Knot made it possible by having a Hoyer lift on a dock that could safely transfer people in wheelchairs into a boat. Camp staff were very accommodating; they spent time with the group sharing stories and shared a nice lunch on the dock.

This experience has further driven Mike’s passion for sharing life experiences with the people AIM serves. “This year we’re looking at Atlantic City, we’re looking at Cape Cod, and some other adventures that I’m still working on right now”, said Mike Vyent, Program Director of Residential.

“When I walk in the door, and just to see the smile on their faces, you know, it’s something that you can’t put a value on that.” – Mike Vyent
